This statement is often attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, who wrote in his book Nicomachean Ethics, “We make our discoveries by reflection and after a long time, but the fruit of them is sweet.” Aristotle believed that the best way to come to a conclusion was to think through a problem or issue in a logical and thoughtful way. He believed that the best way to come to a conclusion was to take the time to reflect on the situation and consider all the facts and perspectives before making a decision. He also believed that the best decisions were those that were made after carefully considering all the information available. In other words, Aristotle believed that a good thought comes after the fact.

This statement is often attributed to Mark Twain, although it is not clear if he actually said it.

On behalf of a common user, I would say: "A good thought is worth its weight in gold - but it's even better if you think of it before the fact!"
