Who’s a chick?

A chick is a young female bird, usually referring to those of the poultry variety. Chicks are born from eggs and are usually covered in a soft downy feathering. They are usually between 1 and 3 days old when they hatch, and will usually remain with their mother for several weeks before they start to explore their surroundings and become independent. Chicks are usually very active and curious, and will often peck at anything that moves. They can learn to recognize their mother and other members of their flock, and they can also be trained to respond to certain sounds or movements.
