Why can’t I look at the moon during a new moon?

During a new moon, the moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun. This means that the side of the moon facing us is not illuminated by the Sun, so we cannot see it. The lack of sunlight reflecting off the moon's surface makes it difficult to distinguish from the night sky. Additionally, the new moon is generally a very thin crescent and is often lost in the glare of the Sun. Thus, it is not possible to view the moon during a new moon.
